Mick
and June Bandy and their three sons moved to Papua New Guinea (PNG)
in January 2003. Their mission is to facilitate "Scripture
Application & Leadership Training" (S.A.L.T.) among native
pastors and leaders - discipling these Christians to disciple others
in their own
languages.
From
1998 - 2002, Mick and June attended the Crossroads Discipleship
Training School (CDTS), School of Evangelism (SOE) and School of the
Bible (SOTB), and then served on staff, at YWAM Tyler in Texas.
The Bandys are now partnering with Wycliffe Associates
in Papua New Guinea to promote "Scripture Application &
Leadership Training" (S.A.L.T.). The S.A.L.T. course
is an intensive two-week Bible course conducted on location in the
village. The S.A.L.T. course is designed to inspire the application
of the translated scriptures and to develop a strong Christian
world-view in the lives of indigenous pastors and church leaders who
have limited access to Biblical training. Through S.A.L.T., the Bandys endeavor to empower
community and church leaders to lead their people into a deeper
understanding of the Truth of the Gospel.
Mick - a missionary, pastor, Christian conciliator and
educator - is the founder and Director of The S.A.L.T. Project, which
promotes "Scripture Application & Leadership Training"
(S.A.L.T.) around the world. He is also the Director of
Hope Alliance PNG, which exists to empower Papua New Guinea with the
Written Word; and he is the Director of Christian Conciliation
International, which assists and equips believers to respond to
conflict Biblically.
As
a Wycliffe Associates volunteer, June serves as the Manager of
S.A.L.T. Manor and the Center For Chrisitan Leadership in Ukarumpa.
She is also a full-time wife and mother; coordinates Scripture Use
teams; and home-schools Palmer.
Carter,
Drew and Palmer have thoroughly assimilated into missionary life and
have enjoyed the challenges and opportunities that come with living on the
mission field. Carter and Drew both graduated from Alpha Omega Academy. Carter then attended the Young
People's Discipleship Training School (YPDTS) at YWAM Perth in
Australia; and Drew attended the Global Access DTS at YWAM
Woodcrest in Lindale, Texas.
In
these ways, the Bandys are seeking to fulfill the Great Commission
in Papua New Guinea, to evangelize the unsaved, and to prevent
marginal Christians from returning back to the ways of their
ancestors (i.e. animism, cargo cults, and spirit worship.)
